In an effort to avoid abandoned homes and future foreclosures, Michigan Democratic Congressman Hansen Clarke wants to introduce a bill suspending home foreclosures nationally for up to three years. Clarke would like to see lenders and homeowners negotiate and modify existing loans, so that the homeowner can keep making payments, care for their property and hold on to the sizeable investment they’ve made in their homes. Michigan ranks 7th in the country in foreclosure rates, although things are beginning to look up. Clarke believes government has a role to play in helping homeowners through these difficult times.
